Hi Neighbor,
As the parent of a high school senior, I have officially started the year of “lasts”. The “last” first day of school photo shoot and the “last” back to school night are in my rearview mirror, and in a few days, I will be attending my “last” PTO Bus Driver Appreciation Breakfast. I’ve been co-chairing this event for the last 8 years with my PTO mom bestie of 19 years, and out of all of the events I’ve worked on within the PTO, the Bus Driver Appreciation Breakfast has been my favorite.
Every year, in conjunction with National School Bus Safety week, we set up a buffet at the bus depot so that when the drivers return from their morning runs, they can enjoy a nice breakfast and relax with everyone on the transportation team. They’ve really come to enjoy and look forward to it each year, and I am truly going to miss being a part of this special tradition.
Observed the third week in October each year, National School Bus Safety Week is an educational program designed to bring together school bus drivers, students, parents, educators, motorists, and community members to promote school bus safety. The theme for this year is “1 Bus + 1 Driver = a BIG Impact on Education” which reminds all of us of the important role school transportation professionals play in the education of Pennsylvania’s future. I hope that you will take a moment and read the letter below from the Pennsylvania School Bus Association to see how you can learn about Operation Safe Stop and the importance of school bus safety awareness in your community.
As I approach this “last” I wanted to send one big and final “Thank You!” to all of the Radnor Bus drivers, but especially to those who have driven my kids to and from school each day. I recognize that your job is a tough one, and I am so grateful for 19 years of safe drives. Simply said, I think you are all heroes, and I appreciate your dedication and commitment to our kids and our school district!
Safe Travels,
Chris
PS – Bestie, if you are reading this, know that I am going to miss working with you on this event, but I am looking forward to many, many more years of friendship with you! XO
