Wendy Wagner

Visual Arts: Painting

My aim as an artist is to strive for honesty. I believe it is key for communication through portrait, figure, or still life; to capture what is sincere and felt. I am inspired by interactions with people, and objects of personal meaning. Most of my portraits are alla prima, because I like the idea of preserving one moment with the model. Through still life, I can infuse meaning with seemingly random objects. I received my B.F.A. in Painting from Moore College of Art and Design. To further my studies, I completed the Advanced Fine Art Program at Studio Incamminati in Philadelphia, where I am currently a fellow.

Visual Arts: Photography

My prints reflect the way I see the world. From an abandoned building to a funny little praying mantis, I see the challenge of capturing the essence of my subject. Some of my prints are straight out of the camera, and others I have added textures to create the mood of how I envision the subject. Sometimes I get really inspired and create a composite print from several of my images. Regardless of the creative path I take, it is all driven from the passion I have for photography. I live in Thornton, Pennsylvania with my husband. Currently retired from my full time job as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. My favorite pastimes are photography, gardening and reading. I have been into photography since a very young age. Every new advancement in the field of photography has offered a great challenge and learning experience. My main focus in photography is landscapes and nature. I love the challenge of photographing the breathtaking moments around us. From the little hummingbirds in my gardens to the majestic sunset down by the beach. To be able to capture a moment in time is exhilarating for me–it is my passion.

Visual Arts: Illustration, Painting

My artwork reflects intensity and strength. Pen and ink is an ideal medium for this purpose. Pure black sharply contrasted with white creates potential for direct and classical imagery. I enjoy the challenge of producing various textures and emotions using only the most basic tools: a black pen mark. I am currently exploring additional mediums with the intent of capturing the human spirit and my own personal journey. I am learning to draw the figure first using charcoal, then grisaille, and eventually full color. As I evolve, my resulting artwork will become an outlet for the fire that burns within.
