Gardening for Wildlife and Beauty with Native Plants will also kick off the inauguration of the Library’s new free seed library – also known as a seed exchange – to promote gardening for plants native to the region. A winter sowing demonstration is also planned.
The event will start with an engaging discussion with a panel of gardening experts: Linda Coulston (Media Bee City), Donna Cusano (Terra Donna Gardens), and Lisa McDonald Hanes (Redbud Nurseries). The panel will highlight the most important things new native plant gardeners should be mindful of when starting out, the most resilient natives for our area, how to garden to preserve species and habitats, and not least, design tips to dispel the myth that native plant gardens are all wildly informal.
Following the discussion, the new seed library will be introduced, and attendees can “check out“ seeds from the collection. Functioning much like traditional libraries, seed libraries provide a platform for individuals to acquire seeds for free, return unused seeds, or donate seeds harvested from plants grown from the original seed.
The free event is open to the community and is a collaboration with Transition Town Greater Media’s Green Wagon Project Native Seed Library
