Now you can take Historic Sugartown’s popular Book Sewing workshop from the safety and comfort of your own home with the materials shipped right to you!
This class introduces participants to sewing techniques not taught in the Bookbinding I class. Participants will hand-sew book signatures together with specialized sewing techniques: French Link Stitch and Double Needle Coptic Stitch all from the comfort and safety of their own home. The class will last three to four hours. Workshops are conducted virtually via GOOGLE MEET. All participants must have access to Google Meet and a computer, tablet or smartphone with a camera to take part.Historic Sugartown has adapted three of its popular workshops to a virtual format: Book Restoration, Bookbinding Level I and Introduction to Book Sewing. Historic Sugartown’s in-person and virtual workshops are taught by Ramon Townsend, who studied hand bookbinding under the Master and Journeymen bookbinders at Colonial Williamburg. Ramon has practiced bookbinding, marbling, and rebinding/restoring used and rare books for four decades, and offers book repair and rebinding services through his business, The Colonial Bindery.
