Hi Neighbor!

Congratulations and Happy End of the Year to all the teachers, students, and parents who have crossed the finish line of the 2021-22 school year! It wasn’t as unprecedented as 2020-21, but it still had its share of uncertainty, ups and downs, and inexplicable happenings that made it feel like the year would never end.  Thankfully, June is finally here, and it’s time to relax, reset, and begin a well-deserved summer break!

When my kids were in elementary school I always looked forward to the last day of school.  Mostly it was because we had all gotten to that point where everyone was “done” with school and desperately needed a break.  However, I also looked forward to the last day because of the traditions we had. First, I would pick them up in the carpool line, and while I would beep the horn, my kids would hang out the window and yell out goodbye to our beloved teachers (#IESFOREVER). Then we would go shopping for an end of the year treat, followed by lunch at one of our favorite restaurants.  Once we got home that’s when the fun really started.  We would make a summer bucket list and hang it on our basement door and mark things off as we did them.  The list had things like go to a Phillies game, or go tubing.  Trips to Hershey, Sea Isle, or Disney always made the list as well.  Firepit fires, s’more making, joining the local library reading program, and Ice Cream from Handel’s were right at the top.  Sometimes, to add a little humor, I would add things that I already knew we were going to do (IE – go to the farmers market for lunch, go shopping at Target, get haircuts, complete summer math packets 😂), just to guarantee some things from the list would be crossed off before the end of the summer. They of course would respond with their best eye-rolls at those ideas, but I would like to think that deep down inside, it made them chuckle. Well maybe just a little, right? 😊.

This year, since I only have one child left at home, the last day of school was very different than past years.  He can drive now, so I didn’t pick him up, and he grabbed lunch with friends instead of me. When I asked him if he wanted to create a summer bucket list with me, he said making a summer college tour list would be much more fun(#YIKES).  I was skeptical at first that creating such a list would be fun, but it turns out that some of his suggested stops would make for great road trips this summer!

Even though we may be road tripping this summer, we will still need a list of fun things to do when we are home, and thankfully, Main Line Neighbors has us (and you) covered with the MAIN LINE NEIGHBORS 2022 SUMMER BUCKET LIST: 101 THINGS TO DO ON THE MAIN LINE.
