In this talk, Qiang will share some of his recent color investigations, and introduce a few tools that artists will find useful for their painting practice!
Color is one of the most important aspects of creating art. However, I have noticed that our knowledge about color has been rather ambiguous and inaccurate. Artists must rely on empirical exercises to gain personal experiences to manage their own ways of using colors. During the time of the pandemic lockdown, I decided to investigate color rigorously. I hope to find an understandable color system to put artists in control. Since 2020, I have researched the theory and property of color, and developed a few easy-to-use computer apps to assist artists to see color accurately and precisely. In this talk, I will share some of my recent color investigations, and introduce a few tools that artists will find useful for their painting practice. Nevertheless, this color research is far from complete. This talk intends to open discussions among artists and scientists to further understand color, so that artists in the future will have a thorough and reliable color system to use.
