Winter Solstice Hike

Winter Solstice Hike

at Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education

Go on a lively walk through our winter forest, and learn the science of the season, like why “solstice” translates as “sun standing,” why mistletoe and holly are symbols of the December holidays, why light is central to these holidays, where all the insects go, and why birds migrate. Hikers will listen to legends and stories of solstice celebrations from many cultures that tried to explain winter. The hike ends at that magical moment when the sun stands still on the solstice.

Please dress for the weather. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP using this registration link.
