The “delightful” and “virtuosic” (ClevelandClassical.com) young pianist Ying Li opens our 82nd season performing Schumann’s Fantasie, Haydn and Bartók sonatas, Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, and Chen’s Moments from a Peking Opera.
The first concert in Tri-County Concerts’ hybrid season this year is a live one featuring the wonderful young pianist Ying Li. Her theatrical program includes Haydn and Bartók sonatas, Schumann’s love-filled Fantasie, Stravinsky’s passionate Firebird Suite, and a theme and variations by renowned composer QiGang Chen that incorporates Chinese musical elements with Western compositional techniques — the same concert she will be performing in her Carnegie Halle and Kennedy Center debuts this fall.
Ying won the 2021 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, the inaugural Antonio Mormone International Prize in Italy, the Sarasota Artist Series Piano Competition, the Brevard Music Festival solo and concerto competitions, and the International Liszt Piano Competition for Young Pianists. She has performed in the U.S. and Europe with leading orchestras, including The Philadelphia Orchestra and L’Accademia Orchestra del La Scala, and at many prestigious festivals, and was featured on WQXR’s “Eine-kleine Birthday-musik” celebrating Mozart. She came to the U.S. at age 14 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Curtis and a master’s degree from Juilliard. Come hear a star in the making!
