First Friday West Philly returns on 8/5 with mixed-media artist Oluwafemi

Oluwafemi is a rhythmist based in Philadelphia and originally from Lagos, Nigeria. He explores how our lives embody and reflect the universal phenomenon of pattern and repetition. For 15 years, his visual and musical work has spanned deejaying, music production, pen illustration, painting, digital still and video art. He produces experiences with various combinations of sights and sounds.
His music influences are deeply rooted in the cultures of the African diaspora and his deejay sets are an eclectic mix of jazz, funk, reggae, hip-hop, house and afrobeat, among other similar genres. In 2011, he co-founded a music collective named Worldtown, which began as a party for people to celebrate diversity through music. Visually, his drawings, murals and digital art reveal a deep inspiration by Geometry, African culture and Hip-Hop culture. He is interested in how expression through patterns is a form of intelligence.
