West Side Story at Footlighters Theater Runs May 13 – 22!

Friday and Saturday Evenings at 8:00 pm

Saturday and Sunday Matinees at 2:00 pm

From the first notes to the final breath, West Side Story is one of the most memorable musicals and greatest love stories of all time. Arthur Laurents’ book remains as powerful, poignant and timely as ever. The score by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim are widely regarded as among the best ever written. The world’s greatest love story takes to the streets in this landmark Broadway musical that is one of the theatre’s finest accomplishments.
Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City as two young, idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the “American” Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time.

It is our firm belief that community can thrive when everyone is engaged, encouraged, and given opportunity. In accordance with this belief, we are thrilled to partner with Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha (APM) for this production. APM is a Latino-based, multicultural health, human services, community and economic development non-profit organization serving the Philadelphia area.

During the run of West Side Story, we will be collecting outerwear clothing for children ages 13-18, to benefit foster children involved with APM. Pradera Corporation, a subsidiary of APM, has a longstanding history within the child welfare community of providing high-quality, holistic and trauma-informed services.

Their focus is to promote healthy lifestyles, protect and nurture vulnerable children and youth and empower them to have a voice in their communities.

There’s a Place for Us, for Everyone.

Clothing items can be dropped off at Footlighters Theater, downstairs (Intermissions Cafe) prior to and after each show, as well as during Intermission. Additional arrangements and questions regarding drop off can be made by emailing fo*************@gm***.com
