African American Genealogy Basics Illustrated.
Alex Haley’s (alexhaley.com) Roots book and TV miniseries in 1976/1977 ushered in an era of family history research that illustrated that it was possible for African Americans to trace their heritage back prior to 1870. During this year’s Black History Month, Dean Henry will recap not only the “typical” African American genealogy research process using examples / illustrations , including some from his own family research, but will also dispel some myths about this research specialty. Some relevant newer developments in online websites and consumer genetic testing are also highlighted.
