The Darlington Arts Center Coffee House Concert Series continues Saturday, February 12 at 8 p.m. with an intimate evening of music with Joy Ike.
The concert takes place in the Ann Anthony Community Space at Darlington Arts Center, 977 Shavertown Road, Garnet Valley, PA 19060. In-person seating is very limited, but a streaming option is available so you can turn your home into your own private coffee house!
Coffee, tea and dessert are included in the ticket price, and guests may bring snacks or their favorite beverage, with glasses and a corkscrew provided. Social distancing will be observed, and masks are required unless guests are eating or drinking.
Polished and precise, yet buoyed with an airy grace, Joy Ike paints with a broad palette that defies easy categorization. Born to Nigerian immigrants, the singer/songwriter’s music, voice, and writing have drawn comparisons to female musicians such as Nina Simone, Laura Nyro, and Regina Spektor. Her percussive piano-playing and soaring vocals give homage to her African upbringing.
Joy has spent the last 13 years playing thousands of shows across the country. According to NPR’s All Things Considered, “The depth of subjects she tackles in her poetic lyrics are perfectly complemented by a unique blend of neo-soul, with just the right dash of pop . . . a truly compelling act to watch in person, with the ability to create an intimate setting in locations big and small.”
Joy’s most recent album, Bigger Than Your Box, was written over a four-year period that included a relocation from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia. Official Facebook: @joyikemusic Official Website: www.joyike.com
