Shofuso is expected to open for the 2021 season on Saturday, March 20 with enforced guidelines put in place by the City of Philadelphia to limit the spread of Covid-19.
Spring Starts at Shofuso! In Japan, cherry blossoms are the ephemeral marker of spring’s arrival, appreciated and admired by picnicking under the cherry trees and walking through groves and allees of the pink blossoms. JASGP planted 1000 cherry trees from 1994 to 2004 to augment the 1600 cherry trees gifted by the Japanese government to Philadelphia in 1926.
After a difficult 2020, Shofuso welcomes Philadelphians to recover and renew by visiting Shofuso this spring and enjoying our Shofuso Cherry Blossom Viewing and Virtual Ohanami on April 10th to start Ohanami season, or cherry tree appreciation, which will include beautiful online videos, activities, demonstrations, and crafts that highlight cherry blossom culture in April. Philadelphia’s cherry trees generally bloom at the end of March through the end of April.
Advance tickets can be purchased for contactless admission beginning in early March.
