CANCELLED - The Delaware County Symphony Presents -Peter And The Wolf !!!

The ever popular and dramatic children’s story of Peter And The Wolf is a musical symphony composed for children of all ages by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev. It not only shares an instructive story about morality and problem solving it also teaches children in a wonderful way about the musical instruments of the symphony. The narrator in a dramatic and emotionally engaging manner shares this exciting children’s story while the instruments of the orchestra musically illustrates it.

Each character in the narrated story will be dramatically represented by a different instrument of the orchestra. For example, the bird will be played by the flute, the duck by the oboe, the cat by the clarinet, the Grandfather by the bassoon, the wolf by the French horns, Peter by the Strings and the roar of the hunters shotguns by the Kettle Drums!
Peter and the Wolf is an essential emotional, musical and cultural building block to every persons childhood.

Michael Bolton has been with Opera Philadelphia since 2001. He oversees the Opera acclaimed student opera appreciation program, Sounds of Learning™, which reaches almost 8,000 students through free performances at the Academy of Music and interactive educational programs in schools and is the winner of OPERA America’s first ever Diversity Award in 2006 for his community-wide outreach programming.

Renowned for his educational opera presentations, Mr. Bolton has lectured for Opera Philadelphia, The Philadelphia Orchestra, the Curtis Institute of Music, Academy of Vocal Arts, University of Pennsylvania, Cheyney University, American Association of University Women, among many others.  He has curated opera programming at African American Museum of Philadelphia, Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, The Barnes Foundation, National Museum of American Jewish History, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, University of Pennsylvania Museum of Anthropology and Archaeology, to name just a few.

The concert, under the baton of guest conductor Tiffany Lu, also features several popular works for children such as Henri Mancini’s theme The Pink Panther and Bizet’s high energy Habanera, from the opera Carmen performed by the DCS Woodwind Quintet.

The Delaware County Symphony Chamber Series is under the direction of Jennifer Nicole Campbell.
