Organ Recital to Benefit Staff of Notre Dame Cathedral

Organ Recital to Benefit Staff of Notre Dame Cathedral

Presented by Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church

Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church welcomes Notre Dame Cathedral organist Vincent Dubois to perform a recital on Sunday, March 22 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary. This recital is part of BMPC’s Concert With a Cause series with 50 percent of the free-will offering going toward supporting the employees of Notre Dame Cathedral who have been without work since the devastating fire on April 15, 2019.

The newest of the three Notre Dame organists, Dubois’ playing has been described as “technically and structurally brilliant… an astonishing tour de force” by Nashville Scene. In 2016 Dubois was appointed as one of three titular organists of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, where he has served along with the two other titular organists, Olivier Latry and Philippe Lefebvre. A graduate of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris where he was a student of Olivier Latry, Dubois earned first prizes in organ, harmony, counterpoint, fugue and 20th-century composition.

The fire caused significant damage to the roof, spire and upper walls of the Cathedral. Fortunately, the altar, two pipe organs, and three 13th-century rose windows sustained little or no damage. The building remains in perilous condition, and the 70 employees of the Cathedral have not been able to work there since the fire.

The Rieger organ at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church is inspired by the great organs of mid-19th century France, especially those crafted by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll in the 1850s-1860s. Its design was overseen by Notre Dame organist Olivier Latry and includes many pipes that are copies of the organ at Notre Dame.

Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church is located at 625 Montgomery Avenue, Bryn Mawr. For more information, visit www.bmpc.org or call 610-525-2821.
