The National Liberty Museum will present a multi-media art exhibition entitled “We Can Be Heroes,” opening on Friday, January 3 until Monday, February 3, 2020.
The We Can Be Heroes Exhibition is being presented in conjunction with Philly Loves Bowie Week (January 3-12), an annual volunteer production of events throughout the city created by committed fans of the superstar singer, songwriter, artist, and actor, David Bowie. This year’s celebration marks both Bowie’s birthday on January 8, 1947, as well as the four-year anniversary of his passing on January 10, 2016.
The We Can Be Heroes Exhibition is a major component of “Philly Loves Bowie Week.” A collection of mixed-media figurative and abstract artworks, it will explore the influence that the man who became known as the “Starman” had –and continues to have– on contemporary art. The exhibition will feature a mixture of neon and glass sculpture, as well as paintings and digital artwork from both local and international artists. It will also include a display of artwork by 4th and 5th grade children and a mural by NT3L, a Philadelphia-based muralist. Select artworks will be available for purchase; a portion of the proceeds will support the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). The We Can Be Heroes Exhibition is included with general Museum admission.
