Presented by New Horizons Senior Center at New Horizons for Active Adults

We invite you to bring your friends and family to celebrate all things Musical at New Horizons!

All Music Programs and Dessert Socials are FREE! (Lunch: $2 suggested donation for those 60+, reservations requested.) 

 

 


MONDAY, AUGUST 5:  Dynamic Duos

Monday is “Dynamic Duos” day, with the morning devoted to the Silver Keys Duo, Roberta Goren and Suzanne Weaver.  These talented musicians will perform a variety of musical periods and styles (Jazz, Folk, Celtic, Latin) on flute and piano.  At 1:00 PM in the afternoon, the Guitar Duo of Singer/Songwriters Stephanie Howlwand and Adam Stricoff will move to center stage, performing both original compositions and classic songs from the 60s and 70s.

10:30 AM:  Silver Keys Duo: Flute and Piano – Roberta Goren and Suzanne Weaver 

12:00 PM: Lunch: Beef + Bean Chili, Corn, Cucumber & Onion salad, Pineapples

12:15 PM: Dessert Social: August Birthday Cake, plus Ice Cream and Toppings

1:00 PM: Guitar Duo – Singer/Songwriters Stephanie Howland and Adam Stricoff


TUESDAY, AUGUST 6:  Music for the Feet and Fingers

On Tuesday, we present “Music for the Feet and Fingers.”  Join Oliver Larmi and the New Horizons Folk Dance Class in the morning for an interactive demonstration of traditional Folk Dances from Greece, Israel, and Bulgaria.  In the afternoon, Pianist Gail Rudenstein takes the stage, and presents a sampling of styles on the piano, including Classical, Show Tunes, and Pop Music, compliments of Synergy Home Care.

10:30 AM: Folk Dance Demonstration – Oliver Larmi and others

12:00 PM: Lunch: Herb-Apple Glazed Turkey, Stuffing, Brussel Sprouts, Beets

12:15 PM:  Dessert Social: Baked Goods – Hosted by Synergy HomeCare

1:00  PM:  Piano Performance – Gail Rudenstein, Pianist


WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 7:  Entertainment through the Years

On Wednesday, you are invited to join New Horizons for a look at “Entertainment through the Years.”  In the morning, Historian Bob Bond will discuss the “Songs of War and Peace,” introducing participants to the music that has shaped America, from the American Revolution all the way through to the Viet Nam Era.  Then, in the afternoon, the talented Schuylkill Valley Boys will give a performance on their ukuleles, showcasing a medley of songs and eras, including Irish and Folk Music, Country-Western, Big Band, and Broadway Tunes.

10:30 AM:  Songs of War and Peace – Robert Bond, Historian

12:00 PM:  Lunch: Chicken Fajita, Spanish Rice, Tossed Salad, Snap Peas, Pears

12:15 PM:  Dessert Social: Homemade Baked Goods – Hosted by The Hearth at Drexel 

 1:00 PM:  Ukulele Performance and Sing-Along – Schuylkill Valley Boys


THURSDAY, AUGUST 8:  American Tunes

Thursday rounds out the week with “American Tunes” close to our heart.  Join Musician and Teacher Stanley Fink in the morning, for “Jazz Appreciation: Nina Simone.”  Stanley will explain about the life and music of this iconic Jazz/Blues/Gospel Singer, Arranger, and Pianist.  In the afternoon, Act III, an ensemble of talented musicians from New Horizons’ own award-winning Glee Club, will perform “Playing Favorites.”  Under the direction of the talented Selma Savitz, Act III will showcase some of the songs from the American Songbook that hold a special place in all our collective memories.

12:00  PM:  Lunch: Turkey Hoagie, Potato salad, Applesauce, Tomato Soup

12:15  PM:  Dessert Social: Ice Cream Sundaes & Dessert Extravaganza! Hosted by Brandywine Living

 1:00 PM:  “Playing Favorites” – Act III Entertainment, directed by Selma Savitz


New Horizons Senior Center, your local community resource for active adults 55 and older, is located in the hub of Narberth, at Narberth Borough Hall, 100 Conway Avenue, 2nd Floor. Since 1976, New Horizons has been providing a wide array of programs and services to appeal to the interests, talents, and desires of local seniors, keeping them active, engaged, and independent.  In July New Horizons is open Monday through Thursday, from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM.
