“Tis all one to be a witch as to be counted one” says the title character in The Witch of Edmonton, written in 1621 and based on the true story of a woman who was tried and executed for witchcraft.
REV Theatre Company – known to Laurel Hill audiences for their critically-acclaimed production of Hamlet and for the past six years their Philly Fringe favorite Death Is A Cabaret Ol’ Chum: A Graveyard Cabaret – will be back with their adaptation of this Jacobean play.
Elizabeth Sawyer is persecuted by her Puritanical community because she is a poor and powerless woman. Sawyer, treated as a witch, takes revenge by enlisting the help of the devil in the guise of a black dog – her “familiar”. Lust, bigamy, revenge, madness, suicide and murder are all unleashed as the Devil hunts his prey through the town of Edmonton – and all with singing and dancing!
