A Story Book Brunch with Character
Sunday, November 11 | 10am-12pm
Tickets: $5/child; Free for adults. Pre-Registration requested. To register, click here and use code BRUNCH under “course name”.
Your child’s favorite characters come to life at this interactive bagel breakfast. Mother Goose will be joined by special readers from our preschool and JCC community.  We will also have some surprise guest readers.  Children will receive an autograph book to collect signatures from our resident characters, readers and surprise guests.

Learn the stories behind some of Philly’s most fascinating chefs and restaurants plus how to get reservations at the city’s trendiest restaurants, where to find secret speakeasies, the most sinful desserts, where senior citizens dine with seniors in college, where to taste grilled goat, spot celebs, sample vegan cuisine and more.
Irene Levy Baker will share stories from her newly published book, “Unique Eats & Eateries of Philadelphia.” Baker, who also wrote “100 Things To Do In Philadelphia Before You Die” is owner of Spotlight Public Relations, a firm specializing in restaurants and hospitality. She’ll tell stories she learned working one-on-one with chefs, restaurateurs, food writers and diners for more than 25 years. She’ll satisfy your appetite for a good meal and a great story. In the Spirit of the Holidays | with Janet Falon

Janet Falon, author of “In the Spirit of the
Holidays”, will be reading some of her poems from her new book and talking about the questions that brought meaning to her poetry. Janet Falon is an award-winning former newspaper reporter and magazine editor. She is the author of four books, and has written for prestigious publications such as The New York Times. A nonfiction writer, she specializes in personal essays and spiritual writings.

Wounded Knee and The Bridge Too Far | with Paul Mitura

The Collected Plays of Chaim Potok | with Rena Potok

Chaim Potok was a beloved, best-selling
author of novels, histories, biographies,
young adult fiction, children’s books and plays, including The Chosen, My Name Is Asher Lev, Davita’s Harp and Wanderings: A History of the Jews.
Rena Potok has published poetry, literary translations, and academic essays. She is the editor of Hills of Spices: Poetry from the Bible and the 50th anniversary critical edition of The Chosen by Chaim Potok. She teaches English literature, Irish film, and writing at Villanova University, and is completing her first novel.
The Collected Plays of Chaim Potok is the first collection of the author’s plays. The volume is edited by Rena Potok with with an introduction.  Dr. Potok will talk about the history of the plays and their central themes, and the characters’ encounters with the worlds of modern art, Russian literature, psychoanalytic theory, and Japanese culture. She will also discuss the relevance of the plays to contemporary audiences, and to conversations about the tension between strict, insular religious observance and the secular world of western culture.
The event will feature a staged reading of scenes from the plays.
