The Federal School is the oldest building in the County erected specifically for education. It served as a one-room school house for about 75 years. The frontispiece reads “Haverford Seminary No. 1 – 1849.” Seminary in this instance is a place of learning rather than a religious institution. This is on the National Register of Historic Places.
