Outdoor Movie Series: The Fifth Element

Outdoor Movie Series: The Fifth Element

Presented by FringeArts at Haas Biergarten underneath the Ben Franklin Bridge

A summer-long themed series of free film screenings in the Haas Biergarten underneath the Ben Franklin Bridge. Enjoy dinner and drinks from La Peg outside and in or food from The Shack outdoors, featuring $7 sandwiches all summer! Films are shown every Wednesday evening at 8:30 beginning on June 6th and ending on August 15th (excluding July 4th). This year, June’s theme is High School, July’s theme is ’90s Action Movies, and August’s theme is Summer Camp.

In this ‘90s cult classic directed by Luc Besson, a 23rd century cab driver (Bruce Willis) unexpectedly finds the fate of the world in his hands. To save humanity, he must help Leeloo, the embodiment of the fifth element, defeat Mr. Zorg.

“With everything going on in this crazy world, I wanted to take people back to the (mostly) carefree days of high school and summer camp. Worst days of your life? Indulge in some ‘90s action movies instead. It’s my hope that this series stirs up some serious nostalgia, whether it’s for the elusive “good old days” or for when you saw Nic Cage’s billowing locks for the first time in Con Air. There’s something incredibly special about seeing a movie for, perhaps, the hundredth time surrounded by dozens of people who love it just as much as you do. It’s as close as you’ll get to actually seeing it for the first time again.” –Catherine Haas, curator
