Historic Sugartown's Book Restoration Workshop

Historic Sugartown's Book Restoration Workshop

Presented by Historic Sugartown at Historic Sugartown's Bindery

Learn basic book repair techniques, and in the process learn about a book’s components and traditional hand-bookbinding methods in Historic Sugartown’s Bindery! In response to popular demand, our Colonial Williamsburg-trained instructor, Ramon Townsend, has developed a workshop that explores the techniques of book restoration. Participants will dissect a book and reassemble it. They will deconstruct a book by detaching the covers and spine, removing the sewing, and disassembling the text. Then, participants will reconstruct the book by performing page repair, re-sewing the text and re-hinging the covers and spine. The book, materials and supplies are provided.
