Hi Neighbor!

I am here to report that I think I have finally found it. Solved the mystery that has been perplexing me for months. Yes, I have found the best chicken sandwich on the Main Line.

First, this was not scientific research. Nothing methodical took place in collecting data and documenting results. I simply relied on opportunity and tastebuds alone. I didn’t even take into consideration the presentation. I guess you could say I randomly stumbled upon my favorite.

The notion of finding the best chicken sandwich started with my friend’s whim. During the pandemic, strictly out of hunger and boredom, she and her husband started a quest to find the best sandwich. Naturally they hit all the fast-food options:  McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, Popeyes. Of course, Chick-fil-A was also sampled. I mean, isn’t that the chain that started it all?

I have always been a Chick-fil-A fan. Who thought pickles were a good idea on a chicken sandwich, but heck, yum! However, my friend’s husband’s favorite was hands down Popeyes. Their sampling of information and sandwiches lead me to ponder where the most delectable sandwich might be hiding. Hmmm….

The chicken sandwich craze has taken over restaurants all over the Main Line, each putting their own version on menus. Varying sauces, varying degrees of spiciness, varying accouterments. Delectable in most places, disappointing occasionally.

Until I found it. THE ONE. Right around the corner from me. How convenient. The best fried chicken sandwich on the Main Line is really on the outskirts, across the river, but so accessible – and delicious. Turns out, Southern Cross Kitchen in Conshohocken is serving up the best version – ever. And every time. Even the takeout version.

Southern Cross Kitchen’s Fried Chicken Sandwich is offered in three different versions but always on a toasted brioche bun. The classic is my favorite, and yes, there are pickles. This sandwich is a staple on their menu, available for dinner, happy hour, late night bites, and even incorporated into the brunch menu. The magic doesn’t stop there. On Wednesdays and Thursday’s customers can build their own Fried Chicken Sandwich. All. Day. Long.

It makes sense that this southern-themed restaurant would do the sandwich right because the fried chicken sandwich originated in the South. Now that I have found it, I cannot NOT order it when dining at Southern Cross. It’s a crime not to, so I must. Pile on the pickles, please!

Fired up over a fried chicken sandwich,
