Hi Neighbor,

While the leprechauns and the luck o’ the Irish sort of steal the show in March, it’s also National Craft Month, which is the perfect time to celebrate the joy and creativity that comes from crafting (while drinking green beer and Irish potatoes, if you’d like!). Whether you’re an experienced crafter or just getting started, this month gives the perfect opportunity to explore new crafts, hone your skills, and finally DO one of the zillions of pins you’ve pinned on Pinterest but haven’t actually tried!

Crafting chances are everywhere (and we feature a lot of them right here in this newsletter each month!).  From knitting and sewing to candle pouring and painting, there’s a craft out there for everyone – and some of them even include wine!  A year or two ago a group of my girlfriends and I went to a “mosaic and sip” night, and it was so much fun.  We drank wine, laughed and made the cutest little hot trivets out of broken pieces of ceramic.  Mine is a pumpkin and it makes me smile every fall when I pull it out of the bin and put it on the center of my stovetop.  I’ve done cookie decorating classes, wood painting sessions (hello, adorable porch signs) and countless others.  To be fair, I was sort of born a crafter.  As a child and teen, I was an avid scrapbooker and I took great effort each holiday season to hand paint ceramic ornaments to gift to all of my family members.  They still hang on my mom, dad, aunts and cousins’ trees to this day.

I didn’t know that “National Craft Month” was a thing until I was researching for this newsletter.  Now that I know, I think it’s a great excuse to try something new!  And, after a little more research I found that crafting has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, increase happiness and feelings of accomplishment, and even improve cognitive function.  Winner winner!

While I certainly think that rainbows and pots o’ gold deserve their time to shine this month, there is definitely enough March to spare for something crafty, also.  Grab a friend or two or enjoy some peaceful solo time and craft on!

Warm regards,

Kim
