Lots to love on the Main Line this month, from a new spin-HITT-yoga workout to a reimagined steakhouse in Malvern to bakeries galore. Get your fill, friends!

• Spin. HIIT. Yoga. Repeat.

After a tough few years for gyms and fitness studios, in-person workouts are BACK! Case in point? The nationwide fitness chain Spenga plans to put down roots in Wayne this spring, bringing its unique spin-HITT-yoga concept to Gateway Shopping Center. (Spenga is a mashup of “spin,” “strength” and “yoga.”)

A typical 60-minute Spenga class starts with a sweat session on the bike. After 20 minutes, participants transition to the floor for HIIT strength training, incorporating kettlebells, dumbbells, weighted balls, TRX straps and step boxes. Everyone finishes with 20 minutes of yoga flow. The strength portion changes daily to target different muscle groups, and Spenga’s spin bikes are equipped with special technology to identify your “sweet spot” and chart your progress.

• Corner Bakery Rolls into Wayne

Beloved nationwide chain Corner Bakery will open a location in Wayne on February 28^th, in the old Zoes Kitchen on Lancaster Avenue. Eschewing assembly-line food prep for bright, open kitchens and fresh, made-to-order fare, Corner Bakery wants to be your favorite neighborhood hangout, serving up savory sweets, artisan breads, homemade soups, salads, gourmet sandwiches, pastas and those cult-favorite egg scramblers. The eatery offers plenty of coffee and drink options too. Unsure where to start? Customer favorites include the Anaheim Scrambler (scrambled eggs, bacon, tomato, green onion, cheddar and avocado), Power Greens & Grain Salad, Chicken Pomodori Panini and Pesto Cavatappi. And don’t forget dessert—the Cinnamon Creme Cake is a top pick.

• Modern Steakhouse in Malvern

Malvern will be home to a new steakhouse this month after a rebranding of Stove and Tap. Citing the area’s abundance of burger and wing joints, Stove and Co. Restaurant Group’s Justin Weathers and Joe Monnich decided to turn the space into a modern American steakhouse called Joey Chops. The new restaurant boasts a main dining room with seating for 135, a private dining room, indoor and outdoor bars, firepits and a lounge area. The menu will feature plenty of dry-aged, hand-cut steaks, along with a raw bar, tableside tuna tartare, soups, salads, premium seafood entrees and tasty skillet sides. Expect an extensive wine list to complement your meal, plus top-shelf liquor and specialty cocktails. A partnership with West Chester’s Levante Brewing is in the works as well. The décor is on the softer side, with lots of reclaimed wood, custom wallpaper and artful tapestries.

• Mangia Mangia!

Savor a sweet slice of Italy at Caffè Della Volpe, a cozy Italian bakery nestled off Berwyn’s Swedesford Road. Inspired by a trip to the Amalfi Coast, foodies Tom Martinicchio and Jen Ehlers are thrilled to bring authentic Italian fare to the Main Line. Everything is made in house, from scratch, using family recipes whenever possible. (The café is named after Martinicchio’s late grandmother, Marta Della Volpe.)

The seating might be minimal (room for eight max), but the menu is expansive, from breakfast sandwiches, frittatas, focaccia and salads to smoothies, gelato (handmade, using local farm fresh milk and sold by the pint) and plenty of scrumptious Italian treats. Also on the menu? Coffee of course, along with Ehlers’ famous Vegglielicious desserts, which she originally developed to up her kids’ veggie intake. Each dessert contains nearly a cup of carrots, zucchini or spinach.

Caffè Della Volpe is located at 312 Swedesford Road in Berwyn. Hours are Wednesday to Saturday, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM and Sunday 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM.

• Let Main Line Ma Be Your Guide

Looking for something (anything!) to entertain the littles this weekend? Check out Main Line Ma, which publishes enticing roundups of fun, family-friendly activities happening along the Main Line. Each week, co-founder and local mom Leah Davey sorts through hundreds of options, selecting activities that appeal to a range of ages, stages and attention spans. Fellow moms are taking note, and in June 2022, Davey resigned from her job as an elementary school teacher to focus on Main Line Ma full time while earning her real estate license. • Expansion Underway at Main Point Books

Book worms, take heart! Wayne’s Main Point Books is NOT closing, just expanding. The shop has temporarily relocated to a storefront on Lancaster Avenue (near the old Wayne Sporting Goods) while owner Cathy Fiebach renovates the basement to house an expanded children’s section and special events space. Fiebach hopes to be back in her original location by the end of March, just in time to celebrate the shop’s tenth anniversary.
