• Main Line Fashionista Debuts Paoli Boutique

Acclaimed stylist, QVC host and former Mrs. Pennsylvania Ashley Meyers is at it again, this time with a signature boutique in Paoli, where she’s curated a selection of fashion-forward clothing and accessories for women who want to test out the trends without breaking the bank. Whether you need something cute for the soccer sidelines or want to make a splash at a fancy soiree, Main Line Fashionista Boutique stocks a range of interesting pieces from familiar and up-and-coming brands. (Still stumped? Mondays are reserved for private styling sessions.)

While plenty of people told Meyers she was nuts for expanding her brand to brick-and-mortar, the Radnor High alum has always blazed her own trail, confident that where she goes, others will follow (hopefully with their wallets).

Main Line Fashionista Boutique is located at 31 Paoli Plaza in Paoli Village Shoppes. Hours are Tuesday – Sunday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Mondays are by appointment only.

• Flight on Ice Returns

Newtown Square’s wildly popular Flight on Ice is back for a second season. Voted “Best Fun Day Family Outing” last year by Delco Times readers, Flight on Ice runs through February 26. An all-ages winter wonderland surrounds the full-size ice-skating rink, featuring festive music, food and beverage vendors, big-screen TVs, fire pits and more. Season and day passes are available, along with skate rentals. You can also reserve a heated hospitality tent for a private party or event. A portion of proceeds benefits the Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association. Check the Web site for upcoming special events, like movie nights, live music and more!

Flight on Ice is located at Energy Transfer Veterans Memorial Rink, 4901 West Chester Pike in Newtown Square. Hours are Wednesday & Thursday 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Friday 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM, Saturday 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM and Sunday 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM.

• Berwyn Pizza Delivers Slices of Generosity

Dinner was the last thing on anyone’s mind in Paoli Hospital’s emergency department this past Christmas. The hospital’s 30-bed ER was slammed with those battling the flu, RSV and other ailments. As more than two dozen staff members tirelessly triaged patients, Pete Bottos, owner of Berwyn Pizza, and his wife strolled in around 4:30 PM bearing gifts—25 freshly baked pizzas to be exact. (Before the pizzas arrived, the staff had been snacking on stale cookies.)

After opening Christmas presents that morning, Bottos and his family made the pizzas to show their appreciation for the hospital’s hard-working staff and remind their two young children about the importance of giving back. “We want to teach them that the holiday is not all about getting gifts,” Bottos told the Tredyffrin-Easttown Patch. “It’s about sharing with others. They know it’s for a good cause.”

• Modern Mediterranean Sizzles in Bryn Mawr

First thing’s first: Bryn Mawr’s Dua Mediterranean Kitchen is NOT an Italian restaurant, despite the fancy Ciao Pasta machine churning out miles of fresh linguini, rigatoni and campanelle for hungry, wide-eyed patrons. Instead, the restaurant bills itself as upscale Mediterranean with a modern twist. Now open in the old Tin Lizard Brewery on Lancaster Avenue, the bi-level BYOB boasts a pasta bar, open kitchen and rooftop deck. 

The menu offers an intriguing blend of Italian, Greek and Israeli specialty dishes, including Albanian Qofte (grilled beef and lamb meatballs served over whipped lemon feta), rigatoni with wild boar, lamb shank, and orata served atop Israeli couscous. Customers can also book a spot at Dua’s pasta bar to watch fresh pasta prepared before their eyes. 

Dua is the brainchild of Bledar Istrefi, who also owns the popular Italian restaurant Moma in Mt. Airy.

Dua Mediterranean Kitchen is located at 1000 W. Lancaster Avenue in Bryn Mawr. Dinner service begins at 5:00 PM, Tuesday – Saturday. Reserve a table (including a seat at the Pasta Bar) via Tock.

Yep, you read that right. The historic Haines Shoe House in York County is officially open for overnights! Originally built in 1948 by Mahlon Haines to promote his shoe store (customers could enter to win a free week’s stay), the property was also home to an ice cream parlor for nearly two decades. This past summer, Naomi and Waylon Brown purchased the shoe house for $355,000 and got to work transforming the property into a unique, inviting retreat filled with modern amenities. The 1,400-square-foot “shoe” now houses three bedrooms, 2½ baths and a hot tub and fire pit out back. The shoe house can be yours for around $300 per night on weekends and $199 during the week. But act fast—the property is almost fully booked through April! Coming soon: An official historical marker from the Commonwealth.

• Gluten Free at Gateway

Wayne’s Gateway Shopping Center is now home to The Happy Mixer, a cult-favorite gluten-free bakery with locations in Chalfont and Newtown. Before opening their Wayne outpost, some customers drove over an hour for the bakery’s gluten-free goodies. Eventually, owners Tim and Lisa Mourer felt a Main Line location was in order.

The Happy Mixer sells an impressive array of freshly baked, gluten-free breads, bagels, muffins, donuts, cookies, brownies and other tasty treats (yes, they do wedding cakes). The bakery offers several vegan and dairy-, soy- and egg-free options as well. Many of the recipes were developed by Tim Mourer, who spent years tweaking ingredients to create gluten-free treats that actually taste good.

The Happy Mixer is located at 103 Swedesford Road in Wayne, in the Gateway Shopping Center. Hours are Monday – Saturday 7:00 AM – 6:00 PM and Sunday 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
