You’ve got questions; STUMP has answers—to your plant woes, that is. Located in that adorable black-and-white cottage at the corner of Route 30 and Old Lancaster Road in Devon, STUMP carries high-quality tropical and desert plants (think cacti, ficus and succulents) and interesting houseplants. Plenty of shapes and sizes are available, from windowsill cuties to large statement plants.

You’ll also find a decent selection of artisan pots to take your plants home in, all sustainably sourced of course. And STUMP’s specialists will even plant your purchase for FREE. In lieu of those annoying (and frankly, useless) plastic tags, every plant purchase comes with care card that lists troubleshooting tips and signs of distress. Founded by a pair of design school grads in Columbus, Ohio in 2015, STUMP is no stranger to Philadelphia, with shops in University City and Northern Liberties. Locations are deliberately small (1,250 square feet max) to provide more personalized service and a highly curated inventory.

• Doggie Desserts for Days

Calling all pups! Downtown West Chester will soon be home to a dedicated doggie ice cream parlor. With a flagship shop in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and locations in Stone Harbor and Rittenhouse Square, among others, Salty Paws sells lactose-free, dog-friendly ice cream, cookies and treats. Ice cream flavors run the gamut from maple bacon and peanut butter to pumpkin, blueberry and basic vanilla. Feeling fancy? Add a flourish to your pup’s treat with a scoop of dehydrated chicken or sweet potato fries from the toppings bar. (Peanut butter ice cream with dehydrated chicken is a top seller at the Rehoboth Beach outpost.)

Salty Paws will even host your pup’s next birthday party or meet up.

• In the (Reusable) Bag

Radnor Township commissioners voted 5 to 1 last month to ban single-use plastic bags, joining Haverford, Media, Easttown, Philadelphia, Narberth and West Chester, all of which have similar ordinances in place. (Narberth’s ordinance also bans plastic straws, and Haverford’s outlaws plastic stirrers.) Tredyffrin will host a public hearing on the matter next month.

Radnor’s ban takes effect in January, and businesses that don’t comply could face hefty fines. Laundry, dry cleaning, newspaper bags and nonprofit food pantries are all exempt.

According to estimates from PennEnvironment, Radnor uses a whopping 12 million plastic bags annually. Customers who forget their reusable bags will be able to purchase paper bags for ten cents each.

• Wayne Native Hits a Home Run

Those enjoying Amazon’s “A League of Their Own” reboot have Main Line native Abbi Jacobson to thank. Jacobson, who grew up in Wayne and graduated from Conestoga High School, co-wrote and stars in the eight-episode series that follows the Rockford Peaches as they compete in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in 1943. Jacobson, who also earned praise as the creator of the Comedy Central series “Broad City,” plays the role of Carson Shaw, the team’s catcher. The series touches on themes of racism, sexism and queer identity.

The series’ production was not without its challenges. After Covid-related delays and budget issues, the show was forced to move filming from Los Angeles to Pittsburgh, where the weather was less than ideal for filming sunny outdoor sequences. Fortunately (or miraculously?), the cast and crew made it work.

Jacobson says no visit to her hometown is complete without a meal at Minella’s Diner in Wayne. “It was a formative place. My parents would bring us there for breakfast when we were kids, and then it would be the place I’d go after any concert, since they used to be open 24 hours,” she told Philadelphia magazine last month.

• IV Me

Jet lagged? Hungover? Flu-ish? There’s an IV for that!

The boutique IV and wellness lounge City Hydration just opened a new location in downtown Wayne, where it offers over a dozen different infusion combinations—plus vitamin and nutrient add-ons and shots—to pump directly into your bloodstream. City Hydration also boasts locations in Avalon and Center City, and nurses will even come to YOU (for an added fee, of course).

All IVs are administered by RNs with critical care/ICU backgrounds. Clients must be over 18 and pass health screenings. Prices start at around $145 per infusion.

• Picnic in Style

Picnics are having a moment (at least on Instagram). A new company in West Chester makes set up and clean up a breeze so you can picnic in style. Starting at $175 for two hours and four people, Wandering Picnics will provide all the essentials, including a weather-resistant bubble tent; table and rug; plates, glasses and cutlery; blankets and pillows; bug spray; sunscreen; fresh flowers; a power bank; a table-top fan; and Bluetooth speaker. Add-ons are available too, like photography sessions, snack boards and juice bars. The company was founded by best friends and outdoor enthusiasts Brenna Medvitz of West Chester and Mary Flynn of Phoenixville.
