Radnor faces lawsuit, Narberth & Lower Merion celebrate PRIDE, and pastries for days in Haverford…things are heating up on the Main Line, friends! Enjoy!

• Topgolf Swings into KOP
After opening its first facility in Philadelphia this year, Topgolf brings its A game to King of Prussia by breaking ground on a $35-million, 68,000-square-foot facility this month at 588 N. Gulph Road, the former headquarters of American Baptist Churches USA. But don’t grab your golf clubs yet; construction will take about a year. With over 70 locations nationwide, Topgolf allows visitors to reserve climate-controlled bays with interactive driving ranges, music and top-shelf food and drinks. Players earn points for hitting various targets, as well as for distance and consistency. It also earns rave reviews for its kids’ and teen birthday parties. The King of Prussia location will be the company’s third facility in Pennsylvania.

• Bonjour, Haverford!
French- and Asian-inspired bakery TOUS Les JOURS (French for “every day”) has brought its sweet treats and savory beverages to Haverford. The cafe serves a dizzying array of freshly baked pastries, cakes and desserts daily, along with handcrafted coffee drinks, smoothies and sandwiches.

Essentially, TOUS Les JOURS takes popular French bakery items like croissants and pain du chocolat and infuses them with Asian flavors. The result is an assortment of pastries guaranteed to please (and never bore) Eastern AND Western palates. One of global chain’s bestselling items is its Cloud Cake, which consists of a delicate sponge cake filled with whipped “cloud” cream and infused with your choice of flavoring, such as milk, chocolate, strawberry and green tea.

TOUS Les JOURS is located by the Haverford train station, at 393 W Lancaster Avenue. Hours are Monday through Sunday, 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM. Bon appetit!

• Pride at the Park
Narberth and Lower Merion will hold their first-ever major event to support LGBTQ+ community members. Pride at the Park takes place on Saturday, June 11 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Narberth Park. Free and open to all, the event will feature food, live music, local artists and vendors, nonprofits and student organizations.

• CBD Kratom Sues Radnor Township
It appears CBD Kratom won’t back down without a fight. After its surprise opening in downtown Wayne in February (the retailer opened without obtaining the necessary permits from Radnor Township), outraged residents quickly mobilized to prevent the shop from reopening, citing its controversial inventory and proximity to several schools and churches. Located in the old Starbucks, CBD Kratom signed a ten-year lease in August. The company operates over 50 locations nationwide, including several shops in Philadelphia and one in Media. In recent years the FDA has raised serious concerns about the unknown and potentially dangerous side effects of the shop’s premier products: kratom and delta-8.
In March, Radnor commissioners issued an ordinance banning the sale of kratom and delta-8 within 1,000 feet of a school, playground or daycare center. The ordinance also prohibits the sale, distribution or offering of kratom or delta-8 to individuals under the age of 21. Given its proximity to Radnor Middle School, St. Katharine of Siena School and several other educational facilities, the ordinance would essentially put the Wayne location out of business.
In response, the retailer sued the township and its director of community development, calling the ordinance “targeted” and “spot zoning.” Township Solicitor John Rice said Radnor is fully prepared to defend the ordinance.
Radnor Township has also launched a petition asking the Pennsylvania Secretary of Health to add kratom and delta-8 to the Commonwealth’s list of scheduled drugs. (Unscheduled drugs can be sold without age, labeling or location restrictions in Pennsylvania.)

• Malvern Woman Finds Her Focus
One day Natanya Sortland of Malvern was living a quiet life on the Main Line. The next, she was being medevaced after suffering a subarachnoid hemorrhage. While she defied the odds and survived, she lost her eyesight. When life as a blind woman felt impossible, she turned to VisionCorps for help. She credits the Pennsylvania nonprofit with helping her to live independently—and joyfully!—once again.
On June 11th, she’ll dress as Lady Liberty and rappel down the Holiday Inn in Lancaster to raise money for the organization. All proceeds will support VisionCorps services, which include education, blindness prevention, rehabilitation and employment.

• From Stems to Spirits in Kennett Square
LOTS to see and taste in Kennett Square this month! For starters, floral photo ops will bloom all over town at the first-ever “Floral Flash” from June 10 through June 12. The event will feature seven temporary floral installations by premier local floral designers, artfully placed throughout town. Floral Flash also kicks off Kennett Square’s inaugural Summerfest Wine & Spirits Festival on Sunday, June 12. Highlighting top local and regional wines, spirits, and cheeses, Summerfest will also feature live music and an al fresco pop-up gallery with works by local artists.
