Hi Neighbor!

Last weekend my husband and I started our seasonal decorating fun!  Halloween kicks it off, and while my husband likes to get it done in 30 minutes, it takes me double or triple that amount of time to get it just right😊!  Even though we don’t have young kids anymore and we don’t get many trick-or-treaters on our street, we still love to decorate for Halloween!  Jack-o’-lanterns, flying ghosts, tombstones, giant spiders, orange and purple lights, skeletons, take up residence outside of our house.  This year we made homemade scarecrows, something we haven’t done since our kids were toddlers!  Not only do they look great, but we have had people stop and say “ok you got me, I thought they were real people sitting there”.

In order to get our festive creative juices flowing, my husband and I go out after dinner every night and walk through our neighborhood in search of new spooky ideas.  Sometimes, we also hop into the car and drive around to other neighborhoods as well.  We live in the Coopertown area of Bryn Mawr and our neighborhood as well as many others up and down the Main Line have become the inspiration in upping our decorating game each year.   While we were walking the other night we were talking about how when we were growing up Halloween decorations were not a big thing; it was more about the candy, and homemade costumes.  While it’s definitely still all about those things, we decided how great it is that Halloween decorations are getting bigger and better each year.  From Haunted Houses (complete with scary sounds and music), and Homemade Graveyards, to Giant Eye-Ball inflatables, the creativity of our neighbors is really amazing!  In fact, because of their creativity, we are currently contemplating which giant inflatable to purchase…a Ghost or Frankenstein!

If you are looking to get out and about to see some spooktacular house decorations, the communities along the Main Line will not disappoint!  I’ve made a list of some streets that are definitely worth a drive by.  One house in particular that I highly recommend is in Broomall (on Lawrence Road).  There must be over 100 inflatables on their lawn and it is so fun to see!

• 1700 Block of Lawrence Road
• West Wayne Ave (across from Odorisio Park)
• Atterbury Road, Villanova
• Nether Providence Township (near Media/Wallingford) has a Halloween decorating contest every year, so there are many houses in that area that go all out!
• Williams Lane, Bryn Mawr (off Darby Road)
• Coopertown, Bryn Mawr – from Landover Road to College most of the streets go all out!
• Shand Tract neighborhood, Tredyffrin Township
• Franklin Ave, Broomall (just off Sproul Road)
• Saxer Ave, Springfield
• Corner of Dill Rd & Rodmor, Havertown
• Pickwick Lane, Newtown Square (Right by Marple Newtown High School)
