Hi Neighbor!

Birthday Celebrationsā€¦people either love or hate them.Ā  Iā€™m a LOVER, but unfortunately for him, my husband is a HATERšŸ˜‰!Ā  He does not share the same level of enthusiasm that I do when it comes to celebrating birthdays.Ā  I love going out for dinner, baking cakes, decorating, and shopping for balloons, cards, and presents!Ā  He hates shopping and loves simplicity.Ā  Cereal for his birthday dinner would be perfect.Ā  He prefers a homemade card or no card at all rather than keeping Hallmark in business. I prefer celebrating on the actual birthdate, thatā€™s not how he rolls. I often wonder if this is because of his laidback personality or if itā€™s because he is the youngest of 8, most of whom were born in September, which meant sharing a big cake on one day when everyone was available šŸ˜Š.

Last week was his big day and I was ready to party!Ā  Cake – ordered.Ā  Homemade card – done.Ā  Present -purchased.Ā  Italian take-out – reserved.Ā  All that was left to do was balloon shopping. For some reason this year, I decided to only buy one balloon (thank goodness).Ā  As soon as I pulled into my driveway, I remembered that there was someone new in our house that didnā€™t know about our birthday balloon tradition because we havenā€™t celebrated a birthday since she arrived.Ā  With that in mind, I wrapped the balloon ribbon tightly around my hand so that it wouldnā€™t be snatched from me the minute I walked through the door.Ā  Once inside, my greatest fear came true; Casey our rescue puppy, lunged at my husbandā€™s balloon!Ā  Luckily, I was able to safely get around her to place it on my kitchen island, far out of her reachā€¦until she decided to counter surf šŸ˜³. After many attempts, Casey decided if she couldnā€™t eat the balloon, she would bark at it.Ā  After at least 10 – 15 minutes of STEADY, DEEP, LOUD barking, my excitement over buying the perfect balloon disappeared šŸ˜„.

Sadly, I knew moving the scariest balloon ever, was our only option, but I had to wait for help. Clearly this was a two-person job; someone had to hold her so she wouldnā€™t eat the balloon or the hand of the person carrying it.Ā  After the balloon was safely moved to the living room that no one uses, I found myself wondering if perhaps while I was out shopping, my husband taught her to bark at balloons so that I would never buy another ever again. Yeah, as if!

Always Celebrating,
Chris
PS – After speaking with my dog loving friends, I realized that for dogs, balloons are like birthday celebrations; they either love them or hate them šŸ˜‚ šŸ¶.
