Hi Neighbor!

Quick! The genie of your dreams has just popped out of a bottle to grant you 24 hours to yourself. What would you do? Where would you go? My girlfriends and I love to play this game, and its frequency has only picked up in these turbulent Covid times. A brief escape, a staycation – just for a night – can sometimes be more luxurious and energizing than a weeklong vacation.

Last weekend, my husband and I were lucky enough to have a completely free Saturday day and night to ourselves (Thank you, Grandma and Grandpa!). I desperately wanted to “get out of town” to somewhere quiet and peaceful, but also didn’t want to drive more than 2 hours or brave shore traffic. In need of recommendations, I turned to an always trusted resource: social media.

Versions of this scenario pop up often in community discussions – “Any tips for a local day trip and overnight stay?” and “Looking for a driveable overnight outing with my husband / mother-daughter / girlfriends!” – and I always glance through the recommendations for future inspiration. However, with my newly free 24 hours in mind, I went into the search archives to review the helpful answers provided and finally organize a proper list for quick, easy, local excursions.
