Re-entry reluctance… on the Main Line

Hi Neighbor!

To hug or not to hug, that is the question. But it’s not my only re-entry question.

I imagined jumping right back into former routines. But I’m two-months past the two-week vaccine waiting period and finally am comfortable breaking some of the restrictive patterns of the past year. Reassured by the state inoculation number up and the rate of infection down, my re-entry decisions continue to be complex. Where to begin?

First on the list was inviting vaccinated family and friends over to visit. Was it really safe? This thought quickly dissipated when I saw them arrive at the door, smiling without masks. But I hadn’t anticipated my own hesitancy at hosting familiar company. I imagined these get-togethers taking place outside but the weather shifted the plans.  I know intellectually that it’s safe for vaccinated friends to come inside but I was surprised at the feelings of uncertainty and hesitation I experienced.

The next re-entry action item was a professional haircut. I happily learned that the salon staff were all vaccinated and they continue to wear masks. Getting a haircut was as exciting as being on vacation in former times. Crazy, huh? What a transformation! I felt empowered and began to feel safer to do more.

I’m finding the transitioning process to pre-covid life a bit challenging but doable. Taking things one step at a time, I’m proceeding patiently, happily and gratefully to make my way back.

Still cautious,
Jane
