Hi Neighbor!

It’s probably a bit of a leap to imagine everyone getting up and dancing right now. In case some motivation to shake your booty is needed, and I hope you’ll smile even if you don’t dance, check out this video.

Dancing’s a huge help for me in both temporarily escaping and placing these anxiety provoking times into perspective. The music gets me out of my head, away from the news, the cold and covid and reminds me of that joyful place inside, not visited very often in the past year. It lifts me out of myself into a solo celebration of being alive.

I just have fun. Fun, what a foreign concept these days! When I’m alone, I shut the door and have a dance date for one. It’s my own private party and I don’t have to plan or get dressed up or be concerned about who’s watching. Sometimes, when my husband requests an invitation, it leads to a slow dance (seriously!) And it’s all good exercise too.

Asking Alexa to play my favorite songs is motivating and there’s also the possibility of discovering some new music. Lately I’ve requested top songs from other countries just to hear what’s popular around the world.

The title of this feature is Dance Break but I’m not talking about break dancing. Unless you want to try it! There are so many different styles of dance. I’ll never be a ballerina or contemporary dancer or make a TikTok video but by myself it’s anything goes. My go-to favorite style is defined by just moving and leaving the judgement behind.  Maybe you’ll break free too and experience the difference a few minutes of movement magic can make.

More than toe tapping,
Jane
