Hello Neighbor!

When my kids were babies, I spent a lot of time killing time. My day was not my own…my job was to shepherd these tiny humans from breakfast to bedtime without completely losing my mind, which sounds simple but was actually quite difficult. Most days I was convinced our clocks were broken…how else could a game of Chutes and Ladders last only 15 minutes when it felt like two hours?

On dark, chilly December evenings, I would often pack them in the car and drive around to look at Christmas lights. If I was really lucky one of them would fall asleep (#winning). By the time we returned, it was close to dinnertime/bathtime/bedtime or whatever “time” I needed it to be.

Thanks in large part to the pandemic, holiday lights are a BIG DEAL this year, and I am here for it! Even though my oldest will undoubtedly roll her eyes when I order everyone into the car, I plan to drive through as many light displays as possible this month. (I certainly have room in my calendar!)

If cruising through the neighborhood gets stale, here are a few local(ish) drive-through displays to check out:
• Shady Brook Farms (through Saturday, January 10th): A bit of a hike but #worthit. This Bucks County farm goes all out with more than three million lights on display, including illuminated tunnels and every Christmas character you can imagine. Timed tickets required.
• Lights in the Village (December 11th, 12th & 13th): Live characters and laser lights, plus music and narration at every scene via mobile app. Hosted by Village Church in Eagleville. FREE and open to the public.
• A Merrily Distant Drive Thru Winter Wonderland (Saturday, December 12th only): The first 3,000 attendees receive a gift bag filled with candy canes, hot chocolate, and a snack at this Phoenixville drive-through display.
• Herr’s Christmas Lights Display (through Saturday, January 2nd): Cruise through the snack company’s corporate campus in Nottingham, decked out with over 600,000 twinkling lights.
• Plummer Family Home: Your holiday light scheme will seem super lame after driving by this Griswold-style home in West Chester. Kids can drop off letters to Santa in a special mailbox.
• Hershey Sweet Lights® : Two miles of animated displays to enjoy from the warmth and comfort of your car. Stop by Chocolate World afterward and treat yourself…it’s been a rough year.
