Hi Neighbor!

I’m a whole-hearted, enthusiastic, unapologetic, laugh until I cry, laugher.

That old cliché “laughter is the best medicine” is the one thing I know for sure is true. I don’t need studies to prove it. One reason I married my husband is because he always makes me laugh – and still does. And my two kids got the gene. Literally, my husband’s name is Gene. (LOL). Hey, I didn’t say I was funny.

What’s funny to each of us is as unique as our DNA. For instance, I find Jim Gaffigan absolutely hysterical but don’t get Jim Carrey. I have friends that share my humor and we often find something so hilarious that we end up bent over, tears streaming down our faces, in full blown belly laughs, gasping for breath. And when we pull it back together there’s such an immense sense of relief, a feeling of being a little lighter and most defiantly happier.

Why? Many studies have shown that laughing releases endorphins in the brain and activates the release of the serotonin. It counteracts the impact of mental stress, something we badly need today. The serious nature of this virus, the disruption to our daily lives, the loss, the political division, the social unrest and the loss of control is serious and impactful to us all. However, humor can give us some relief from all of the heaviness.
Humor doesn’t lessen the enormity of the situation, but it can lift our spirits. And I find that a gift.

Some stuff that’s made me laugh out loud:

I feel bad about my neck and other thoughts by Norah Ephron
Bossy Pants by Tina Fey
