Hello Neighbor!

Resting under a shade tree in summer, looking up at the sky is one of my favorite childhood memories. I imagined floating up to the clouds and travelling even further out into the pale blue infinity. I’d measure my small presence against the endlessness of space. Filled with wonder at the vastness and contemplating the mystery of what was beyond, I returned from dreaming to summer on earth. My imaginary travels created an experience of reverence and respect for our planet and fellow creatures, each one magnificent and unique.

Imagination is the singularly most important tool we developed according to the author of Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind. It was imagination that allowed for working together, exploring other lands, inventing needles to sew pelts for warmth, discovering fire and creating communities.

During these socially distanced and societally challenging days, this memory was a reminder to travel into worlds of possibility. If I can dream of possibility, then there’s the potential for realization. Whether I’m imagining myself as a SpaceX traveler or I’m teleporting to visit the kids across the country, imagination lifts me up from what is now to what someday could be.

Imagination’s roots begin by taking hold in my own life. Lately, I’m imagining larger. I see potential for transformative world change, where people come together to co-create a new standard of freedom, equality, love, wisdom and peace for all. I realize the task appears daunting. So was walking on the moon until it became reality. But first came dreaming.

Love,
Jane
