Hello Neighbor!

Going from accumulating to decluttering.  It’s a strange, and not too unusual occurrence in American life.  We spend years working our patooties off to have the privilege to finally be able to afford “things”.  We usually start with basic furniture.  I can still remember the pure joy I had the first time my husband and I could afford a BRAND NEW couch!  Not from a second hand store, not a hand-me-down from family, a REAL couch – from a REAL furniture store!   Then it was saving enough for a house of our own.  Then on to filling that house with everything it needed.  Then came kids.  And of course the purchases went up 100 fold.  And as they got older we needed more space, more items.  There was always something on the to-do list… something to make bigger or better.  Cha-ching, ching, ching.

Now, with our kids in their 20s and moving out on their own, my husband and I find ourselves wanting the opposite of all those past years of accumulation.  It’s almost funny that we spent YEARS working toward a goal… accumulating all sorts of much needed “stuff”, only to realize the need was not quite as great as we first thought.  Actually, at this point, it’s just plain clutter in our eyes.

So, it’s official –  I am on a “new-phase-in-life mission”.  I’m decluttering, minimizing and simplifying!  And honestly, it feels fabulous!  There is a wisdom-filled philosophical lesson for sure underlying our pursuit of all these things, just to realize that “simple” is really the key to true peace.  (well, in my humble opinion at least)
