Just Can't Wrap My Head Around It... on the Main Line

Hi Neighbor!

I had yet another birthday last week.  Another year officially in the books!  I’m not complaining – happy and blessed to have enjoyed another wonderful year, but the fact of the matter still remains… “Holy Cow! How can I be this old?!”   I look at the number on paper (or look in the mirror ;), and I can’t wrap my head around it.  My brain tells me I’m 27?  34 maybe?  But that is not reality.  Reality is… 51!  Wowza.

It’s funny though, there is our physical age and then there is our psyche age.  I am very happy that my body has been pretty kind to me in regards to health, so I won’t complain about the new wrinkles popping up or the increased challenge of keeping fit as the years go by.  Those are far from real issues, but they are certainly signs of my “biological” age.  And for the most part, not something I can change.  Living beings age.  It’s just the way it is.

As far as my psyche?  It’s been a bit surprising to see how my psyche has responded as the years go by.  It doesn’t seem to be getting any older.  In fact, the “kid” in me seems to be coming back in full force.  I’m enjoying the little things in life, finding laughter and fun more important than ever.  Being more present in the moment and (maybe to the dismay of the people around me) finding the “silly” coming out more and more.

They say that youth is wasted on the young, but that doesn’t have to be the case.  If we choose, finding that “kid” in us as we age is totally doable.  Youth isn’t being wasted on me as I get older, that’s for sure.  I’m embracing it and reliving it.  And enjoying every minute!

Enjoy!
