Did She Really Just Say That?... on the Main Line

Hi Neighbor!

I’ve always been an old soul.  At least that’s how “I” like to look at it.  I know that most of my family and closest friends would probably prefer the term “old fart”.   Well, tomato tomahto.  Let’s just say I’ve always been a tad “mature” for my age.  According to my mother, this started around the ripe old age of 2.

I find it so interesting, the perplexities and tendencies of people’s personalities. We are all born with certain automatic inclinations, but also have so many learned behaviors that come into play as we age.   Is it nature?  Is it nurture?  Well, in my humble opinion, I think it’s a combination of both!

My youngest daughter is going to be 21 on Feb 1st.  She, like me,  has always had that “a tad more mature than needed for her age” kind of personality.  Now I will say, she also has a nice smattering of her father’s adventurous spirit as well.   And I am very happy she does.  I mean heck, she actually decided to go to Finland all on her own last summer to work on a local farm there in exchange for food and shelter.  Not something I ever would have done.  But she isn’t always in adventure mode.  Sometimes, she’s much more, shall we say … mellow?

She now rents a house with six friends, has become a bit of the house mother, and has rescued an 8 year old cat named Arlo.  All fairly typical college things to do.  But it’s the last discussion that I had with her that made me laugh out loud.  (There really is something to be said for genetic coding.)  I texted her one morning and asked what she was up to for the day.  Her response?  “I have to hit the grocery store, do a little laundry, plan on tidying up the house for the week… then maybe a puzzle?”

“Maybe a puzzle?”
Did she really just say that???
Oh my dear daughter… the “old fart” category may be hard for you to escape. Nature it is! 😉

Enjoy!
