Hello Neighbor!

My daughter has an “oldies” playlist, featuring Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, and right, these are not oldies.  When I was growing up, my dad believed Mick Jagger was a whippersnapper who didn’t enunciate; Dad was nostalgic about Frank and the crooners. Obviously, it’s all relative, but there’s no getting around the fact that I am now old and nostalgic.

I went to Ardmore Music Hall this past weekend to see Unforgettable Fire, a U2 Tribute band.  I have to say, I went in doubtful.  I’m no U2 aficionado, but I know a good number of their songs, and how do you replicate Bono?  He’s one-of-a-kind; he has one name.

The band had great energy and musicianship. Apparently, they’ve been playing together for 25 years, so Bono2 has had a lot of time to practice singing and moving like Bono1, but he also really resembled Bono1 too!  I’ve not seen U2 perform live but being up-close and dancing and singing to Unforgettable Fire was an easy, inexpensive, and fun alternative.  I saw the actual Rolling Stones perform live this summer, from the very last row at Lincoln Financial, and though it was fun, it was not easy nor was it inexpensive.  But I do love that I can say that I (barely) saw Mick strutting his 76-year-old stuff down the catwalk.

Whether it’s an admiring, honoring tribute, or the very real deal, it’s good craic to take in some of the oldies—scratch that—classics.

Rock On!
