Hi Neighbor!

Siblings are like potluck dinner. Everyone brings something to the table. Sometimes what’s served is delicious and sometimes it can make your stomach turn. The next dinner will be different and the same person that brought the tasty dish, brings the bad one this time.  After years of “eating bad food” you tend to find excuses not to go to dinner with them.

When my parents passed away (mom 5 years ago, dad 15 years ago), my three sisters and I ever-so-slowly started growing apart. When my parents were alive, they were the glue that bonded us. We are a blend of personalities and experiences that just don’t mesh without our parents holding us together.

Growing apart from family or anyone is no fun, so I decided to do something about it. I started the “Sister Call.” Every Wednesday at 5:00 PM, I connect my sisters using the handy “merge calls” feature on my iPhone. Sometimes we can’t be on the call, but that’s okay. With four of us, at least two usually can chat each week. We could be carpooling kids, driving home from work, making dinner, or even at the gym, but we still talk. Sometimes the call only last five minutes…other times it’s an hour. It’s become a habit and we are becoming closer again. They may not be my best friends and sometimes our relationships are messy and it takes work. But, I’m hoping to have lifelong relationships with each of them. I know that’s what my parents would want.

Enjoy!
