Hi Neighbor!

So just picture this one.  I’m at my neighbor’s (and dear friends) house visiting.  The entire family is in the kitchen and we are all just chatting away as usual.  Dad, Mom, 6 year old daughter, 4 year old daughter, and their beloved beta fish, Stella (well, she wasn’t chatting – but you get what I mean).  Time to clean the bowl.

As everyone looks on, Dad takes Stella out of the bowl and puts her into another small bowl on the side of the sink while Mom gets ready to scrub Stella’s main abode.

Before we know it, Stella has jumped out of the small bowl and into the sink!  We all jump up and run to the sink, but Stella has already given 2 or 3 good flops and down the drain/disposal she went.

Now keep in mind that 6 year old and 4 year old have just watched their one and only pet take a nose dive into the garbage disposal.  They are beside themselves!  So Dad jumps into action to try and save Stella, but it’s pretty hard to stick your hand down a disposal and grab a flopping fish without cutting your hands to shreds or cutting the fish to shreds – or BOTH!!

You can just imagine all of us yelling at poor Dad … “Don’t do that!  You’re going to kill her!”,  “Hurry up, she can’t be out of the water this long!”,  “That’s not going to work!”,  “OMG …She’s dying!!” …

The girls are now in hysterics crying!  (Mom is now near tears at this point as well)  Dad has pulled out 2 lemon peels and a onion skin – but no Stella!  And then it starts to get really ugly.

Time is of the essence and there is so much “stuff” in the disposal – all of which Dad is yelling at Mom should never have gone down the disposal in the first place – he can’t even find Stella!  After quite a few minutes have passed, the girls and Mom go into the bathroom – they simply could not watch anymore!  I stayed with Dad for moral support.  😉

The next thing we know the dishwasher goes on (it was on a timer) and the water starts to go into the drain.  But because there was so much crud in the disposal, the drain was all clogged and it started to fill up.  It filled up and LIFTED STELLA right out of the drain and back into the sink!  Alive!  So Dad quickly plugged the drain to make sure that Stella wouldn’t get sucked back down, and then put Stella safely back in her bowl.

Then Dad did the unthinkable. With Stella safely in her bowl, Dad turned the garbage disposal on to get rid of all the “stuff” clogging it.  The only problem was that the girls and Mom were still in the bathroom with no idea what had gone on – last they saw, Stella was lodged in the disposal.  And now all they were hearing was the disposal running!  WAILS immediately emanate from the bathroom!!  Two little tots and 1 grown adult – crying like no one’s business!

Of course Dad and I ran to the bathroom and explained the “miracle in the sink”.  Everyone wiped their tears and did a celebration dance while running to see Stella.

Now the real question…
Did Dad run that disposal to get rid of the crud?  Or was he just a typical man with a perfect opportunity to torment his family?  A man, a family of girls, and an opportunity….  Hmmmmmm……

Never Lose Faith,
Laura

P.S. – Thank you Colmans, for always filling my days with lots of laughs and love!
