Hi Neighbor!

Strawberry season is NOW so don’t miss a chance to go strawberry picking! One of my favorite memories from raising my daughter was taking her and her little friends to a strawberry farm. Not sure if we had more in our bellies or our baskets! On one of our farm adventures I learned an important parenting lesson: make sure everyone has a potty break before heading into the fields. I had to teach one of them how to handle this in mother nature and it didn’t go very well!

With my birthday month being July, my mom always gave me a Carvel Ice Cream cake or she baked me a Strawberry Angel Food cake. To be honest, I preferred the Carvel cake except for the time she put it in the fridge instead of the freezer! I wish I had a picture of the gooey, melted mess. Instead, here is a picture of me during my very awkward tweener stage getting ready to eat my second favorite…strawberry cake.

If you can’t pick your own, there are endless pints at our local farmers markets thanks to our proximity to Lancaster. Check out our market list on our website!

Not only are strawberries juicy, summery and delicious, they’re a bona fide superfood, packed with antioxidants like vitamin C. I even read somewhere that they aid in wrinkle prevention! I don’t care if that’s fake news or not, I’m eating them daily this summer!

There are oodles of recipes for these delectable berries. They star in breakfast dishes, desserts and salads. Here are a few of my family’s favorites!

Strawberry Spinach Salad
from the Colorado Junior League

Strawberry Banana Smoothie
(my own concoction)

Kraft Strawberry Angel Food Cake
(similar to my mom’s recipe)

Strawberry Bread
(from the Baltimore Sun many moons ago)

Strawberry Lemonade

ENJOY,
Beth
