Pottery has always been a passion of mine, a journey that began many years ago. Due to professional demands and life in general, that passion felt like a guilty pleasure that could only be indulged occasionally and was even relegated to long periods of hibernation. After deciding to leave my career in academia and clinical research, it was high time to get my hands back into clay with zeal. Most of my work is thrown on the wheel, sometimes with the accents of carving and/or hand-building. I create forms both functional and artistic with many mediums of clay, from dark earthenware, to stoneware, to porcelain. For me, working with clay is mesmerizing, challenging, therapeutic, inspirational, and ever-evolving. I find that I lose myself in the process as time zooms by, and at the end I have a creation to show for my effort. It is not always what I set out to make, but it is what the clay wanted to be. Sometimes we just have to listen to the clay…
