The Great Backyard Bird Count - Virtual

Each February, for four days, the world comes together for the love of birds. This year’s count will be February 12 through 15. Over these four days everyone is invited to spend time in their favorite places watching and counting as many birds as they can find and reporting them. These observations help scientists better understand global bird populations before one of their annual migrations. Launched in 1998 by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and National Audubon Society, the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) was the first online citizen science project to collect data on wild birds and to display results in near real time. In 2013, it became a global project when it began entering data into eBird, the world’s largest biodiversity-related citizen science project. Families, couples and individuals are all encouraged to participate. Learn how to be a part of the fun and science for the love of birds.

This program is part of the Longwood Gardens 8th Annual Community Read Program designed to encourage reading and start a conversation. In 2021 discover how one finds a passion for nature and explore what can become of that spark. Participants will be eligible for a free drawing for a one day family pass for 4 to Longwood Gardens.

Registration is required. Registration will close 2 hours prior to the scheduled start time of the event. A Zoom link will be emailed to registrants 2 hours before the program starts. Make sure to check the email address you registered with to receive the link. You do not need a Zoom account to attend the virtual program.
