Explore NLM’s current exhibit SPACELAB: An Interstellar Exhibit of Glass Art and be inspired to design your own otherworldly creation in this hands-on workshop.
Philadelphia-based artist Danielle Conyers of Escape Threads will lead an embroidery workshop to create a one-of-a-kind, hand-sewn pulsar map on a wood hoop canvas. The design interprets a pulsar map, the first message launched into outer space aboard the Pioneer 10 spacecraft. Originally designed by Carl Sagan and Frank Drake, the map depicts the relative location of our sun based on the known location of certain stars to guide extraterrestrial life to make contact with Earth.
