Antarctica speaker - Mike Kramer

Mike Kramer’s presentation documents a three-week expedition to Antarctica on the Bark Europa, a 180-foot, steel-hull, tall ship built in 1911.  The ship was built in the same era as Ernest Shackleton’s tall ship Endeavor, who also explored this area.

Going through the roughest ocean in the world, the Drake Passage, the Bark Europa  experienced 50-know winds and 15-20 foot seas for four days in each direction.  Once in Antarctica, the Bark Europa negotiated glaciers, seals, penguins and dozens of whales.
