170th Church Anniversary, Mt. Zion AME Church, Devon

The African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church has a unique and glorious history. It is the first African-American denomination organized in the U.S. and the first major religious denomination in the Western World that was born out of sociological rather than theological differences.

Mt. Zion AME Church in Devon, Pa. is the oldest African-American congregation of any denomination on the entire Main Line. The church is a historic treasure nestled in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County. Founded in 1849, its cornerstone was laid in 1861.

Our Historic Church and Cemetery was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in January 2015.

At 10:00 AM we will have a Proclamation and Tour of our original Historic Church and Cemetery. Starting at noon we will have the well-known Bishop of the First Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Right Reverend Dr. Gregory Gerald McKinley Ingram as our guest speaker followed by a banquet.
