I’m sure some of you “summer people” will grab for your pitchforks when I say this (kidding, kidding), but, August always makes me long for fall. Every year it’s the same – I’m all aboard for summer fun until August rolls around. As soon as the page on the calendar flips, I feel myself wanting for cool nights, crisp mornings and the tastes, smells and colors of fall. I find comfort in the back-to-school routine and I feel so happy when I can feel the change of season in the air. We’ve had a few “fall-ish” mornings within the past few weeks and I couldn’t get my windows open or my morning coffee fast enough because it just tastes better in the cool morning air, I’m telling you! Don’t roll your eyes TOO hard though – I haven’t switched over to my pumpkin spice creamer just yet.
These next few weeks between “end of summer” and “it’s fall ya’ll” are going to be full of good stuff. There are just a few weeks left to get in those last cannonballs and waterslide zooms at the pool. There is time for another day trip or weekend “down the shore” for sandy toes and salt water soaking during the summer season. The fruit orchards are still ripe for picking all of the delicious flavors of summer before it’s all about apples, corn and pumpkins. There are school supply lists to shop for and fancy new bookbags and lunch boxes to pick out. Before we know it, our Main Line streets will be full of big yellow school buses carrying all of our kiddos to what will hopefully be a more normal year of school.
So while I certainly don’t wish to rush time and plan to soak up the rest of the summer sun while it lasts, I’ll be first in line at the “fall starts here” kickoff. Change is good! And this change comes with a side apple cider and pumpkin pie, so really, could it get any better?
